ANDREU GENEALOGY
This is the genealogy of the Andreu branch that resided in Alayor and Fornells and who departed for Florida in 1786.
JAIME ANDREU is the most important ancient individual that we have found. He was a settler on an estate called "DEYA" in Alayor. He lived in the middle of the XVI century, and was married to someone called PERETA (PETRA), whose last name is not shown on the document. Jaime Andreu died on the 14th day of July, 1578. This death certificate is translated from the Menorquina (Menorcan) language. It is the most ancient document concerning the Andreu family. On July 14th, 1578, Senor (Mr.) Jaime Andreu was buried at Deya having received all the sacraments. He did not make any testament (will.) However, he left verbal instructions before everybody present that on July 25th of that year a solemn offering was to be made for the feast day of Santiago (St. James). 10 pounds was to be paid to Senor Juan Sales, the butcher, at the end of July, for his funeral and suffrage. His widow Pereta outlived him until February 6, 1594. The widow Pereta Andreua was buried with the name feminized, as was the custom: Andreu became Andreua, Pons - Ponsa, Salort - Salorta, etc. She received the sacraments and did not leave a will. Both were buried in the same funeral crypt that was at the parish church of Saint Eulalia of Alayor. The present cemetery situated on the outskirts of the city was not established until well into the middle of the XIX century. Of the various children the above mentioned couple may have had, we know about the following three:
I. FRANCISCO ANDREU,
2. JAIME ANDREU II
3MARCOS ANDREU,
