Whitewashed, tiny lilting villages scatter across Menorca, all within five minutes of gemlike, azure-blue water. Mahon, the island's capital, is famous for its 5-kilometerlong natural harbor, besides which cobblestone streets wind their way through whitewashed houses and walled alleyways. On the opposite side of the harbor from town are the exclusive residential areas of Cala Llonga, San Antonio, and Cala Rata.

Es Castell, situated at the entrance of the port of Mahon, was developed from the important military fort San Felipe, constructed in 1554

The fishing village of Fornells is one of the prettiest on the island, with a delightful harbor, and is home to the famous Caldereta de Langosta (lobster soup).

On Menorca's southern coast, San Climente is a village bustling with year round trade. Nearby are prehistoric caves, as well as the beaches of Binidali and Cala Canutells

Ciutadella is a special harbor town, with a long, winding, canal like waterway passing whitewashed houses, lush hills, and peaceful, moored sailboats. The harbor winds to the heart of the old town, where palaces of noble families, churches, the town hall, and the cathedral are hidden in a maze of narrow streets. The island's capital moved from here to Mahon during the first British occupation in 1708, since the harbor of Mahon was more easily accessible for traders than Ciutadella's. The ancient Royal citadel faces the charming Borne Square; a obelisk here commemorates the heroic defense of the city against the Turkish attack in 1558.
