Menorca has it’s own English School in Mahón and Bonnin Sanso have their brochure and prospectus available.

Instruction in local schools is given in Spanish (Castellano) and Catalan. Private nursery schools are available for children from around 3 years of age until 5, when they enter the State-run or semi-private schools until the age of 14.

Generally school hours are from 8.00 until 14.00, some schools, however still open 9.00 to 12.30 and then 15.00 to 17.00.

The summer holidays are long (around 13 weeks). Christmas and Easter breaks comparatively short.

At 14, the student can transfer to the "Instituto" until 17 years of age and study in preparation for University on the mainland or Palma.

Barcelona University is much favoured by local students, given its proximity and reputation. Here, however, everything is taught in Catalan. Given the demand for places, student hours are staggered.

There are other universities on the mainland that teach in Spanish. There is a college of further education in Mahón that gives training in secretarial skills and various trades.

There are also many extra-curricular facilities for art, music and sport.
